Volda Electric Mill

At Volda Elektriske Mylne you can see old crafts in operation. Here, different types of grain are ground on three large and old stone mills from the 1930s. There are cereals such as oats, barley, rye, spelt, weat, peas and emmer, the latter when it is possible to get hold of it. In addition, Mylnå has quite recently developed new products from local ingredients. Among other things, chaga, a type of mushroom that grows on birch trees and is used as a dietary supplement, is a powerful antioxidant. In addition to dietary supplements, powder is ground from leaves and shoots from the willow tree. The willow powder is also used for baking bread. The willow powder contains sugars and omega 3 and 6.

The company has received many awards, including Olavsrosa from Norwegian Cultural Heritage for "exemplary combination of traditional use and modernization of the technical equipment through maintaining a unique craft tradition". In the same year, the product plate-dried oatmeal was awarded the prize "raw material of the year from land" during the food festival in Ålesund. During the Meal of the Year in Stavanger, oatmeal was an important ingredient in the dessert.

Mylnå has appeared in the television program "Norge Rundt" (Norway around) three times and has also featured in the radio program "Norgesglaset" (the Norwegian glass) three days in a row with different themes.

Mylnå has received economic support from both the Culture Council, the Kulturminnefondet and the Uni Foundation.

Guests can book a time in advance to see how the craft is carried out.
