Bakketunet (The hill yard)

In the heart of the Hjørundfjord in the cultural village of Bjørke at,  lies the preserved Bakketunet with its six venerable buildings, where the timber in the oldest houses is dated back to 1549. With the historic buildings, you can get the feeling of beeing back to the Middle Ages, where the stables had their various functions in a full-fledged yard with the barn, the storehouse, the cowshed, the narrow barn and the stable.

During the summer months, the Bakketunet will be an active and vibrant art and culture center in the Hjørundfjord, with an emphasis on the dissemination of old building customs, history and the life of the fish farm.

The yard is open to everyone every Sunday and offers art and craft exhibitions integrated into the yard's environment. In the storehouse, the yard has a farm shop with local goods, and in the chamber you will find a knitting shop with Hjørundfjord knitwear.

On days with nice weather, we serve pizza from the wood-fired bakery and we sell coffee/coffee food in the cafe in Grindløa, whatever the weather is.

The hosts in Bakketunet welcome groups with tailor-made events all year round by agreement.

See the exhibition program and opening times on the home page.
