On Friday, April 5, Volda and Ørsta kunstlag opens an exhibition with painter, graphic artist and material artist Jan Baker. Baker was born in 1939 in Stange, and is still an active and very special artist. In connection with his 85th anniversary, he is organizing several major exhibitions in Austlandet, and we in the art society are very pleased to be able to show some of his works here at Kunsthuset in Ørsta.
Jan Baker expresses himself mainly through painting and graphics. At the exhibition in Ørsta, Baker exhibits art that is created digitally, with drawing boards and digital painting tools, so-called D.G.A. art. The process starts on paper, canvas or similar, where the artist draws or paints. This is then digitized in high resolution and, in collaboration with a printer, printed on high-quality paper. All prints are then hand-colored.
Baker was educated at the Norwegian School of Crafts and Art Industry and the Norwegian National Academy of Fine Arts. He made his debut at Haustutstillinga in 1967, and since 1967 he has had a number of solo exhibitions, group exhibitions and biennials in Europe, the USA and Asia. He has also had several decorations throughout the country, and has been awarded the King's Fortnightly Gold Medal in 2005 and the Paul Harris Fellow in 2006.
The exhibition will be on display at Kunsthuset until Saturday, April 27.
